Bungamati Walking App
A digital guide that plays a unique melody as you reach each place in Bungamati.
A walking guide for the historic town of Bungamati. It maps more than 44 heritage sites and local venues such as museums, shops and workshops, shares their stories, photos and videos, and plays a melody unique to each place when you walk near it. A guided trail connects every site so visitors can explore the whole town on foot.
The challenge
Bungamati is full of heritage sites, crafts and small venues, but most visitors only see a few of them and leave without the stories behind each place. A printed map or a list of facts could not capture the feel of walking through the town.
The approach
The app turns a walk into a guided experience. Each site and venue has its own page with history, stories, photos and videos. Location tracking detects when a visitor is near a place and plays a melody that belongs to it, and a trail route links every site and venue so nothing gets missed.
The result
Visitors get a self-guided tour that covers more than 44 heritage sites and local venues, with sound and stories that make each stop memorable. The app was delivered as part of a Switch Asia supported program implemented by UN-Habitat with Lalitpur Metropolitan City.
